I'm wondering whether your dogs are scared of the fireworks? We used to live right near the city in Australia and there used to be fireworks quite often at the start of the year and our Jessie was not afraid of the noise in the slightest bit. As she got older, we actually took her down to see it and she didn't even pay attnetion to the noise.
Our oldest 2 didn't seem to be bothered at all. Kona was a little scared, but not bad. We hear fireworks quite often during the summer because we live close enough to hear them from Sea World, and when they start we usually turn up the TV a bit, so the sound is drowned out. The dogs get pretty distracked watching Animal Planet, and sometimes don't even notice the firework noise.
