Should've Known Better...

Remember how excited I was to be going to the fair again yesterday? I should've known better...apparently most of San Diego was excited about it, and wound up going.

It was $2.00 Tuesday. Entrance was only $2.00, and most of the vendors had sample sizes of their fantastic food for only $2.00....the news had been talking about how bad the traffic was on the freeway getting there....and yet, I wanted to go anyway. Should've known better.


It only took us about an hour to get from our driveway to the entrance gate (on a normal day, without the traffic it would have taken about 20 minutes.) The one parking lot that we like to park in (because it's free) was, of course full....so we made our way to the main parking lot, and for $10 we were able to find a parking place...way out at the end of it, in the dirt lot. With a freshly washed car. Should've know better...


Once we got inside the gates, after waiting for a tram, and standing in the security line, we were able to meet up with some friends that had been smart enough to get there earlier than we were...


We kicked our "sampling" into gear, with AJ being on a $2.00 binge like never before. In the short time we were there, we sampled:

1. Australian Battered Potatoes (only called Australian because of a cute little paper flag they put in the middle of it)


2. Tasti Chips (similar to home made, greasy potato chips)


3. A corn dog (good, but nothing special)


4. BBQ Beef (served in a little plastic cup about the size of a bathroom Dixie cup)


5. Chow Mein (good, but kind of bland)


6. A 1/4 cinnamon roll (probably my favorite of the evening)


7. Kettle Corn (another favorite)


8. 1/2 of a Texas donut (named a Texas donut because it's supposed to be as big as Texas? Who knows?)


9. Fried macaroni and cheese (rolled up in a ball, battered and deep fried, yum!)


10. Curly fries (if it was a potato, AJ wanted to sample it!)


11. and last, but not least, baked sour dough bread with cheese melted on it. Again, YUM!

I need Tums just from writing this! Surprisingly, the lines for the food weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. The vendors were organized, the food was fresh (for the most part) and we had fun.

Until it was time to leave.

We headed out the gate, and got in line for the tram again. Hubby asked if I wanted to just walk to the car. I said "No, let's just wait for a couple of minutes, the line isn't that long..." Should've know better...

25 minutes later, we finally get on a tram that takes us close to our car. We notice that the parking lot is full of cars trying to leave. No one is moving. Not one car. We wait, and wait, and wait. We inch ourselves out into the line of traffic heading towards the exit, and wait some more. Meanwhile I am thinking about how gas is climbing back up in price, back to over $3.00 a gallon here, the waste of the price of a car wash, considering that the car was now covered in dust from us having to park in the dirt lot, which we paid $10 for the privilege of doing so. (It took us over an hour and a half to get home...)

And of course I thought of what a bargain $2.00 Tuesday was at the Fair.

I seriously should've known better.
