Kona and Jack will be starting a therapy training class tomorrow. We've signed up with some other members of my Golden Retriever Meetup Group to get trained to be certified therapy dogs. Both of our boys have such great temperaments we thought it would be worth a try to see if they can make the cut. (Although we love Jill dearly, and she can be the sweetest thing in town, we've decided that she is just to skittish to try to take to a class like this. The poor thing goes into a tizzy when a grocery bag is crumpled within ear shot, if a bird farts across the street, or God forbid, something is dropped that makes a loud clatter and she practically poops her non-existent drawers...no, therapy class is not for her...)One of the prerequisites for the pups to take the class is that they have basic obedience skills down-pat. We've been practicing with the boys, and I've been very pleased with their progress. Both can do a "sit-stay" for a good amount of time without budging...both know "down" pretty well, as well as "down-stay"...both heel pretty well, come when called, and are doing pretty decent with "leave it." I hope they both get accepted for the class...we'll know tomorrow afternoon after an evaluation.....keep your paws crossed! Kona does his ""sit-stay" like a champ!
Jack is a whiz at his "down-stay"
Hangin out with best buddies Joey and Kealani after our training...
