The First of Three

There were three graduating seniors on our little "corner" this year, "Marco," our AJ, and "CJ." They are all spreading their wings and flying off to different parts of the country to go to college. Last night it started, with Marco being the first to leave. He headed out with his family to the college in New Mexico where he will be playing football and studying Sports Medicine. He is a talented Wide Receiver, and we look forward to keeping in touch and watching his career flourish. We've known this young man since he was only 5 years old - my oh my, the time does fly...
AJ will be the next to leave- we take off for Indiana this coming Monday. CJ will head to her new home in Montana on the 21st to begin culinary school.
The neighborhood will certainly not be the same without them. When did I get this old?

My sweet Sue,

I know your heart is heavy for your boy's departure. You're such an involved, nurturing mother, for all of your babies. You take full part in their lives, know what is going on with them and when and where. I can imagine that it will be a shock to have one baby that you won't be doing that with every day. :-(

I will tell you though that this opens the door for some new incredible memories. When I went away to law school, some of my best memories are from my visits back home because it was an adventure every time. It's weird to think of visiting home as an adventure, but because my time for visits was so brief, my family and I would all kinds of things together before I returned. Some of my favorite moments with my mom are from that period. It is no consolation now, but wait until AJ visits home for the first time. It will be the sweetest event ever.

I am so sorry I wasn't able to have you all over for dinner before he leaves. We have been so sleep deprived the last couple of months. Milo's sleep-wake cycle was off and he was up nights with his dementia symptoms in full force. When we did have free time, we just tried to nap.

Ed will be in South Bend for the Navy/Notre Dame game in October and he's hoping AJ might have some time to come up for the festivities.

Sue, thank you for your comforting comment for our bear Milo. You know how much I miss him. My heart physically aches, I can feel it in my ribs. You guys were an important part of his history with us, and I am eternally grateful for your love and care for him when he was with you.

I love you all, and now you are in my thoughts and prayers as you embark on your journey with AJ. We are so proud of your son. When you return, we can maybe finally have that German breakfast together and get a much-needed chat out of the way. I have missed you.

God speed on your trip, be safe, happy, and make many memories.

(((Hugs)))
