Pops

I haven't been on much lately, and I apologize for not wishing all of my wonderful blogging buddies a Happy Mother's Day via individual comments. I was thinking of you all, and sending good thoughts your way, but just didn't get the chance to touch base with anyone.

My Pop went into the hospital this past Tuesday 5/5/09, quite unexpectedly. He started to feel a strange tingling down his left side (Hello! Can you say MAJOR red flag for a guy who had a quintuple bi-pass about 11 years ago!) Anyway, he spent Tuesday night in the emergency room, Wednesday in an observation room and was "officially" admitted to the hospital on Thursday. They've been running a myriad of tests on the poor guy, from blood tests, EKGs, a CAT scan, to an MRI, and anything else you can think of.

So far, they haven't come up with what the problem is. He was almost released on Saturday, but at the last minute (I mean seriously, he was dressed, and sitting on the edge of the bed!) he had a complication, and they kept him. Which, as it turns out now, was probably a VERY good thing. His heart rate has been irregular since then, and dips down into the low 30's every once in a while. Not good. Last night and this afternoon his heart actually stopped beating a couple of times for 2 or 3 seconds each time. REALLY NOT GOOD! What the heck?

So, now we are waiting for a cardiologist to come and take a gander. They've mentioned a pace maker...hopefully that might help. Fingers are crossed that they figure out what's going on soon! It's certainly no fun for him to be in the hospital and for us all to go and visit him each day. It's just mentally draining. I feel so bad for him, I really do. He tries to keep a smile on his face, but you can sure tell it's not easy.

We did bring him a little surprise on Saturday though, which sure seemed to cheer him up. A special visitor!

Kona cheered everyone up! Such a good boy, and SO well behaved at the hospital - he's a natural with this therapy stuff! We were so proud of him!

I hope he doesn't need an operation to fit a pacemaker... but if he does it means he will be safer from having his heart stop!
Kona is adorable... I didn't know he was training to be a Therapy Dog. How cool!
