...continues are our house. Jill is still fighting two hot spots, and it just basically pretty pathetic. The original one she had a while back, at the base of her tail is finally gone. Shortly after that though, she got one, a super nasty one, on the left side of her face. The "donut" cone she was wearing seemed to help most of the time (when it wasn't loosing air) but as her face began to heal, another hot spot was starting under the donut, on her chest, just below where her collar would sit. Darn it!
We've been trying all sorts of things to help, and some seem to help more than others. My kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy! We've shaved both the side of her face and a large chunk of her chest - and although it makes her look terrible, it seems to help greatly to get those rotten hot spots to dry out. Socks also help with the scratching, since she can no longer wear the donut ring, because she was able to get to both areas with her back feet and draw blood.
I've gotta give her credit though, she is a super good sport about getting her medications, and walking around in her "getup" ...
Sweet Kookie Jill!

Love the socks, nothing like having ones with personality. We finally had to get antibiotics for Tucker's spots.

Oh poor baby!!!! Love her! Hugs Joey and Kealani
you are right, the best thing for a hot spot is to keep it dry! that means no swimming Jill! is she on antibiotics?
Kim - she's not on antibiotics yet, only because I'm holding off on giving them too her. They always wreck her stomach.
I was bad, and let her swim today too...it was just torture not to, with all of the other dogs in the pool. I did dry her off really well once she was out, and at least it help burn some of her energy. She's been happy and mellow since then, and spots are looking good and dry. She's got her socks back on, and hasn't been interested in scratching at all this afternoon/evening...
We feel for you and your doggie! Hot spots are sooo nasty! It's spring here and soon the heat will descend (together with potential Hot spots).
Hope things get better soon.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a 'hot spot'?
She looks hysterical with her socks on.
Chris, it's a spot on the dog that gets infected for some reason that they lick, bite and scratch at until it becomes a nasty, oozy mess. Jill seems to have gotten them from having such a thick undercoat of hair that takes forever to dry. She scratches at the wet hair, it gets matted, and the rest is history. She's never had them before this year, and for some reason she's gotten bad ones. They are nearly (finally) all healed.
OHHHHHHHHHHH POOR baby!!!!!!!!

Oh Sweet Jill, so sorry to hear about your spots!!! I'm experiencing them for the first time and it's not fun!!! Mom joked about putting socks on me instead of the lampshade. Now I have a feeling she will try it!! Please get better soon!!!
Sending you lots hugs,
Miley
To divert licking and biting of hotspots I found "Sour Apple" spray will diveret mouthing where applied. Poor girl, I hope the mess disapears as mysteriously as it began. Merrill
