Styx

Last week the San Diego County Fair (aka the Del Mar Fair to us "oldies") opened here in town. They always offer a wide variety of free concerts- everything to fun oldies like K.C. and the Sunshine Band to new and up and coming bands that I've never heard of before! In the past we've see some great shows there, among them Tower of Power, Weird Al (He really does put on a great show) and my personal favorite from long ago, John Denver....oh, how I loved John Denver....anyway....this past Wednesday, they featured Dennis DeYoung and the music of Styx.

Talk about bringing back some great memories of the late 70's and early 80's! Mr. DeYoung is now the sweet age of 63 and sounds every bit as good as he did 30 years ago. His voice was fantastic, and although my little camera didn't pick up the sound (or picture) very good, take my word for it, it was a great concert!

Sorry for only being able to offer little snippets of songs. I didn't realize that my battery was running low, and I was afraid to record a whole song all the way through. Just like the fair, I wanted to offer you a little variety!

Enjoy these little pieces of Styx - I guess you could almost call them twigs! (Oh, I almost cracked myself up!)

OH! And one big BY THE WAY! Today is G-Ma's Birthday! We are taking her out for a fancy-schmancy dinner, with the whole family to Morton's - our most favorite steak house ever. Pictures tomorrow! I am cheating- and killing two three proverbial birds with one stone. I am taking out Mom, and Hubby and my Pops, all for a very nice dinner in honor of Mom's birthday and Father's Day tomorrow. Hey, I'm on a limited budget, what's a girl to do? (And Morton's isn't exactly Taco Bell...not that there is anything wrong with Taco Bell...but Morton's is probably going to set me back about $500 for a dinner for 7- ouch!)

Happy early Father's Day to all of you Poppas out there!

VA Visits

It's Friday - which means it's time to go to the VA again! We've been visiting with some new teams lately - several teams are just in the process of getting their 10 one hour supervised visits done, and I am the one that gets to supervise. It's an honor, and also a lot of fun. This was our crew from last Friday.
You can see one our new team members, Sophie, a little bulldog, the second from the right. She is a doll! Another of our new team mates, Emma, will be joining us today. Emma is a 13 month old English lab, and is full of energy and fun. It should be a great visit!

Workin' Boy

Kona was on the job today and loving every second of it! (And no, I'm not trying to look snooty with my hand on my hip, I'm trying to not have my arm look fat!)
Kona makes a new friend.

A favorite of ours.

Hubby got to join us today. He was proud of his boy!

These two have a special relationship.

I think it's love...

This sweetie is always full of smiles!

Our once a month visit to this Senior living facility is one of our favorite visits we do. The residents are always happy to see us and spend a few minutes chatting. We found out today that one of the women we've been visiting with for the past few months passed away last week. We are sad to learn of her passing, but thankful for the time we were able to spend with her.

Rest in peace Mrs. L.

Random Silliness

I received this little note in an email from my sweet sister in law Carol today, and it made me giggle...

"I don't want to brag or make anybody jealous or anything,
but I can still fit into the earrings I wore in high school."
I love it!
I hope you all had a great day!

A-Z Mondays - The Foodie Version. "U" is for Udon!

Udon is a type of Japanese noodle, usually a thick wheat-flour noodle. Udon is usually served hot as a noodle soup with a mild chicken or fish flavored broth. (I prefer chicken - big shock there!) You can pretty much add anything you like to udon- scallions, prawns, pork, vegetable, tofu, egg, chicken, beef, etc. It's all good. In the area of San Diego I live in there are several good Asia restaurants that serve excellent udon, but the best udon I've ever had is made my the Japanese mother of one of our neighbors. She makes it every New Year's Eve, and we eat it right at midnight, for good luck. She puts jumbo sized prawns in it, and it is delicious!

Ok, so now I've gone and made myself hungry again!

Have a great Monday! If you'd like to see what other bloggers are drooling over for A-Z Mondays, be sure to check out Jen's blog here.

Just a Few Goldens

I think it's fair to say we had a few Goldens turn out for our get together yesterday in Ramona.

They played and swam, and ran themselves ragged!
It was awesome to see such a grand gaggle of Goldens in all their glory!

Yup...there were a just a few Goldens around.
