Gentle Giant
Poor Tom, he gets the same questions over and over again.
How much does he weigh? (212 lb, thank you very much...)
How much does he eat? (only 4 lb of raw food a day)
What kind of a dog is THAT? (He's half Great Dane, and half English Mastiff)
Where's his saddle? (At home, and yes, he has one - from when they dressed him up as Clyde's dale for Halloween one year...)
You'd think Wilson was some sort of unusual dog or something.
Here's a little perspective for you. Wilson standing next to Happy. Happy is a normal sized adult Golden Retriever.Wednesday, August 11, 2010
The "Petco" Ad
Check out this link for a current Petco ad on line. Scroll to the bottom of the page....recognize anyone?
Pretty cool, huh?
Yup, those are our pups, from last year's Padre game.
We are anxiously waiting to see if we made the cut for this year's tickets. They only give out a certain amount of them, and we haven't heard anything yet. Our fingers and paws are crossed!
(Thanks to our friend Nita for sending us the link on Petco!)

EMS Service Dogs?
Emergency Medical Services has introduced trained service dogs to help cut costs.
Canines have been used for police work, search & rescue, tracking, service dogs, and a variety of other tasks. Now they're assisting Paramedics and doing so at a much lower cost. See the example below...

Weekend Walks
This weekend I put some pretty decent miles on those old shoes of mine.
On Saturday we walked a total over 9 miles, and 8 of those were on an early morning training walk from Del Mar to UCSD in La Jolla. We got a relatively early start (7am) and finished up about 2 1/2 hours later. The weather was perfect for a long walk, cool, breezy and overcast most of the time.

We weren't the only ones up and out early. The surfers along Del Mar were out in force!
This sign wasn't kidding - this train whooshed by us at lightening speed! (And that, my friends, is why we never wear headphones while walking!) You've got to be able to hear the train when it's coming!
The long walk towards Torrey Pines State beach...and the BIG hill.
We made it to the top, and kept on walking!
What a beautiful course!
Time for a quick break and a "happy-snappy."
On Sunday we found a new place to walk. We walked a 6 mile loop around Coronado Island. It was a beautiful walk, and one we will certainly do again.
We saw the aircraft carrier the USS Ronald Reagan coming back to it's home base. Here it is entering the bay of San Diego, near Point Loma.
We saw some gorgeous homes along the way...
This was one of my favorites - and it was directly across from the beach.
Ah, the world famous Hotel Del.
We also did something we'd never done before...we walked under the Coronado Bay Bridge! It was a pretty cool perspective from under there.
It was nice and sunny by the time we got back around to where we'd started.
I love living in San Diego, and these pictures show you just a little bit of why. There are some many beautiful places to visit and walk around, and you can go from the beach to the mountains in just an hour!

It was cool and cloudy when we started. (Doesn't San Diego have a beautiful downtown skyline?)
I'm hoping your week is off to a great start!
