These are the pup's costumes for this year's S.D. Golden Retriever Meetup Group Halloween Costume party. They are going as "the pup-kin patch" - I know, they aren't very creative, but they will work, and be comfortable on the doggies. I gave thought to adding hats, but decided against it when I remembered that they all HATE wearing hats - so why bother!
These are some bandannas I finished up for Kona. Each time we go on a therapy visit he wears a bandanna to identify him as a certified therapy dog. I've ordered Love on a Lease patches for him with his name on them, to be put on each bandanna, but they haven't arrived yet. (Did I mention that he actually got "carded" going into the hospital the other day, and I was tickled pink to whip out his official ID card and show it to the security guard!) Anyway, I've made enough seasonal bandannas to get him through Christmas, and then I will make a couple more...one for Valentines Day, St Patty's Day, Easter, etc. The folks we visit get a kick out of seeing what he is wearing.
I also finished up Hubby's costume last night, and I am SO happy that's done! It just needed some finishing touches, and it's been bugging me to get it done. Now it's done and off my list! The other big sewing project, a teepee, is done too. YAY! I think I can finally put my sewing machine away for a while! I'll be sure to post pics of the costume and the teepee after the party. They both came out pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!

Sew & Sew
I've been busy, in addition to my regular party prep, with sewing stuff. Last night I was FINALLY able to complete several of my sewing projects. Although I'm not nearly as talented as some people (Chris!) with their mad sewing skills, I was please with how these projects came out.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and our friend Harry* wants everyone to join in with wholehearted support of friends and loved ones who are survivors of this disease. (My Mom is among the lucky survivors, and is enjoying her 23rd year of remission!)Stop breast cancer early by doing breast self exams monthly!
Remember Boys, that goes for you too. The American Cancer Society says "It is estimated that in 2009 about 1,910 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among men in the United States."

SURF DOG RICOCHET RAISES OVER $8200 FOR QUADRIPLEGIC SURFER, PATRICK IVISON, AND TAKES SECOND PLACE AT THE SURF CITY SURF DOG EVENT!
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 13, 2009… Ricochet, (”Rip Curl Ricki,”) the Surfin’ for Paws-abilities surf dog who is fundraising for Patrick Ivison, a 15 year old quadriplegic adaptive surfer exceeded her fundraising goals, and won 2nd place in the large dog category at the Surf City Surf Dog event held October 11th in Huntington Beach.
Ricochet has been leading a fundraising campaign for Patrick for the last several months. As part of these efforts, she and Patrick performed a tandem surf demonstration at the Surf City Surf Dog event last Sunday with the goal of raising funds, as hundreds of onlookers enjoyed the tandem pair.
Ricochet’s fundraising goals were twofold: Raise enough money to cover the $2000 cost of Patrick’s new service dog, Kona from Pawsitive Teams, a local service dog organization. And, raise at least $5000 for Patrick’s intense physical therapy at Project Walk.
The WebMD Health Foundation, who is thrilled to help Patrick reach his goals, made a kick off donation of $3600, which helped Ricochet raise a total of $8200+, exceeding her goals! Donations are still coming in, and being accepted, so the totals will be updated in the next several weeks. If you’d like to make a donation go to http://www.ripcurlricki.com/Donate.htm. Despite injuring her paw two days before the event, Ricochet was determined to do her job for Patrick, and competed in the large dog category of the surf dog competition, where she placed first. She achieved the highest score of all dogs in all categories during the preliminary heats, notwithstanding her injury. Ricochet then went on to the finals where she won 2nd place in the large dog category, and Patrick happily accepted her prize. But, Ricochet says “The best prize was raising more than $8200 for Patrick, and doing our tandem rides, which puts a huge smile on Patrick’s face!”
Patrick suffered a C4/5 spinal cord injury as a result of an un-insured driver backing a car over him, when he was a child. Patrick was diagnosed quadriplegic, and has used a wheelchair ever since, but uses an adaptive board to surf.
Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for people with disabilities, but had to be released from that role due to her strong drive to chase birds and other small animals, which could be dangerous to a person with a disability. She went from service dog to SURFice dog, and is now fundraising for charitable causes like spinal cord injured Patrick Ivison.

A-Z Mondays - "M" is for a Myriad of stuff
"M" is for Mondays - one of my least favorite days of the week.
"M" is for Movies - one of my favorite things to go to when I have a little spare time on my hands, and a little spare cashola. (My favorite movie? Shawshank Redemption)
"M" is for Music - I appreciate almost all kinds of Music, from Mozart, to Marilyn Manson.
"M" is for Money - of which I wish I had a LOT more of...
"M" is for Montana - a place where I spent several years of my childhood, and holds precious memories for me - of camping and fishing in the gorgeous Mountains especially.
"M" is for Musicals - I loves me some Musicals! My favorite musical? Jesus Christ Superstar, featuring Ted Neely (he played Jesus in the movie too, another of my favorites.) I've seen him live on stage 3 times, and would love to see him in the roll again. He still has an incredible voice.
"M" is for Maniac - I ran around all weekend like one.
"M" is also for My dearest things in the world -My family, my parents, my dogs, my friends. (I know that's a stretch on the whole "M" thing, but what the heck.)
"M" is for Mush - as in "My brain feels like mush and I can't come up with much more!"
And last, but not least, "M" is for Mischief, of which I am good at getting into.

Exhausted
Kona isn't the only one that's exhausted today. We've been on the go nonstop since 8am this morning...over 13 hours so far. We are getting lots done though, and having a blast doing it...things are coming together nicely, but as always it seems like it takes SO long to get things the way we want them. We had our full "production crew" here today, so that was awesome. We'll have the same tomorrow, thank goodness. Hopefully we'll knock a whole lot more off our lists!
